I am doing cleaning. Due to plumbing situation, landlord will likely be by tomorrow afternoonish. I need a presentable hovel to present to my * very * nice landlord.
I am glad to get a kick in the pants about this. I needed some motivation, and I also hope to start phase one of my " home office".
I am taking a break, listening to Handel, and I will go back to listening to something more lively to clean by.
Rewards for good action : already got one... some Replay gift certificates. One will go towards 25 $ off of Two Towers tomorrow. Yay.
Reflections on my " most influential book "....I would say Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. It made me want to be a writer. I wanted to write the 20th century version of Little Women, or something like it. I wanted to have " genius burn". I related to not being " much of a beauty" like Jo. I always felt different, and a little outcast, and later when I read it, ( first time was around 11 years old ) I also felt left out of the whole romance game. I didn't enjoy the earlier versions of Little Women in the movies, but enjoyed the one with Winona Ryder & Susan Sarandon.
There are other influential books, such as Wrinkle in Time, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, That Hideous Strength, Parable of the Sower, etc. throughout many years of reading. But Louisa May Alcott ( and also, Andre Norton / Peter Beagle/ Madeliene L'Engle/ Charlotte Bronte ) was one of the big sparks that lit my desire to write.
Now if I could focus and complete something !!! That would be ideal.
