puzzle me this
Isis was one Bob Dylan song that puzzled, bemused, interested, intrigued, confused me.

This movie is worth seeing in the theatre, however...I had problems with what I felt was jerky editing in the first 45 minutes- it seemed transitional scenes were missing, or even that the film was cut after Mr. Peterson and the studios released it...I don't know. The editing didn't feel right about a third of the time after that. The music could have used a little more ...punch and originality, it seemed reworked from the Gladiator. What little I know of Greek costume- this was pretty awesome in its detail. The CGI sometimes kind of became very 2-D and flat, disappointing, and the crowd CGI generator didn't quite have the right rhythm as a real running crowd would, in my imagination that is ! The jewelry accents were well done, and the sets were mostly first rate. Sometimes the sets were less convincing than some of the earlier slightly cheesy looking SG1 sets, but all in all, while not up to the Gladiator standards, they did pretty good.
I was involved in this movie, and for the most part, its narrative was pretty easy to follow, and quite frankly, I don't ( now I do ) know enough of the story- so I could have gotten lost. It does contain some violence, and I believe for the most part is anti-war, making some universal parellels, and yet to my mind, keeping in mind that the mindset of the Grecian ancients wasn't like anyones' on earth today. Theirs was the usual reasons for war- alliance, territory, opening up areas for trade, power, domination yadda yadda, the same old story. It also points out this war was for very personal and selfish reasons, it escalated due to passions and mishaps and ...gee. I guess nothing has changed...
The actors that most impressed me were Eric Bana, Sean Bean, Peter O'Toole,Orlando Bloom, Saffron Burrows and blush...I don't remember her name, the wife of Hector, Andromache. Eric Bana is the actor to watch. I appreciated Sean Bean , who definitely didn't remind me of his LOTR character Boromir at all ( in fact, at first I had to ask myself ..is that really Sean Bean?) and Orlando, didn't remind me of Legolas either, except he makes a very cool archer. I also liked the guy who played Ajax. Brad Pitt did a good job, and I was a bit prejudiced, for he seemed too modern to play someone in ancient Grecian times...but he did seem to engage and involve himself in the milieu of the movie.
I'd recommend this for people who like historical dramas, enjoy any of the actors mentioned above, and would like to see Brad Pitt in one or two scenes when he is obviously a man at his peak and prime of his physical person. I will give it a cautious 3 cups of coffee, with some reservations.
