who knew...
May 6 was the National Day of Prayer ... and they wanted us to pray for tradtional families etc.
You can do that if you want.
I wondered... what 5 areas do I think god/goddess should hear from me about ( that's not personal...since I just whined about how down I am etc. ) ...
1. Peace
2. Love
3. Economic equity
4. Health and happiness
5. Inspiration
Peace= that everyone would realise that peace is, as Eisenhower put it, the " climate of freedom"...
Love= People need to respect, and have concern, and be responsive to each other. You cannot possible do it all at once...but as the Bible puts it, " without love, I am as a clanging cymbol."
Economic equity= Big concept. Not sure how it works, but people need to be paid more or things need to cost less. People need to be paid more than to just enable them to " get by " or have to work two jobs and barely have ends meet. Women's jobs need to be valued.
Health= just think what would happen if everyone's health improved, overnight ! If suddenly everyone had equal access to equal quality of healthcare. I'd so like a god to inspire some researcher to find a cure for AIDs and cancer, as soon a possible. A goddess could inspire a reform of the insurance systems.
Happiness = If everyone pursued happiness and found it...that would be a good thing for the nation. True happiness doesn't harm or injure, wound or make sad another person- so some people would have their ideas of happiness a little changed, I think.
Inspiration : For artists and scientests, for depressed and impressed, for Hollywood and Nashville and Washington, inspiration to make peace a reality, to raise people's wages and to help them acheive their goals... to make changes so their health does improve, to enable people to resolve the medical care crisis throughout the nation, and to have strong minds and think outside the box when it comes to curing diseases. For artists, so they can bring beauty into our lives, and for us, to be inspired by the beauty they bring, so happiness can be touched, and seen and felt.
Thanks, Margaret Cho for the link to the Day of Prayer.
I got cheered up while writing this. I am sure a god of inspiration might just be helping me out now...maybe St Quentin Crisp ! I liked him when I was a young woman, I remember with fondness watching the great TV Bio with John Hurt-- the Naked Civil Servant...then reading the book. I am sure he's not a god, but a saint or good spirit somewhere, maybe.
Now I guess I'll have to get to some praying... although I am sure it's not the type approved of by the Day of Prayer people.
